How to Set a Wallpaper on Windows, Mac, Android and iPhone

You've downloaded a wallpaper — now what? Setting it as your background takes just a few steps, and they're slightly different depending on your device. Here's how to do it on the most common platforms.

Windows

Right-click the downloaded image file and choose "Set as desktop background". Alternatively, go to Settings > Personalization > Background, click Browse, and select your downloaded wallpaper.

macOS

Open System Settings > Wallpaper, click the "+" button (or drag the image into the wallpaper picker), and select your downloaded file. You can also right-click the image in Finder and choose "Set Desktop Picture".

Android

Open the image in your Gallery or Photos app, tap the menu (three dots), and choose "Set as wallpaper". You can usually choose to apply it to the home screen, lock screen, or both.

iPhone

Open the image in Photos, tap the Share icon, and choose "Use as Wallpaper". You can then adjust the zoom and positioning before setting it as your Lock Screen or Home Screen background.

Tips for the Best Result

For the sharpest result, pick a wallpaper whose resolution matches or exceeds your screen's native resolution — see our resolution guide for details. Browse by category, like Graphics or Music, to find a style that fits your device.
